Lee was born on a farm in eastern Nebraska and graduated from Colorado State University in
'55 with a BS in Microbiology and in '57 a MS in Microbiology from University of Nebraska. After
2 years in the US Army, he went on with a career at Eli Lilly in Agricultural Research in '59.
He returned to school to earn a PhD from Michigan State University in Virology and returned to
Lilly as head of an electron microscope lab for 29 years before retiring in 1993.
Lee has worked with wood since high school. After retiring, he repaired antiques and made
new pieces. Spending most of his shop time with a lathe, making bowls, vessels and art
objects, Lee uses wood from around the world, striving to show the beauty of wood's grain
and color. He displays work at the Center for Creative Arts in Zionsville and in local
art shows. His hobbies include gardening, boating and walking.
