The Phillipean Leaf

I use mixed media on fabric to build layers of color and design that are integrated in unique
ways to make a whole. Dyes and textile paints applied in varying ways make a background
for techniques such as stamping, silk screening, drawing, appliqué and foiling. Stitching by
hand or by machine unites layers of fabric and sometimes paper. Attaching found objects
or beads creates yet another layer of design, usually the last.
Inspirations come from a sense of longing, nature, history, the colors and designs of folk art,
the beauty of the written word, a walk of faith.
I make art for the fun and joy of expression, for the loveliness of the materials, for the rhythms
of the work, for the deepening of vision and for the desire to add beauty to the world.
I earned a BA degree in Art Education from the University of Northern Colorado and have
practiced and taught my art for over thirty years.
My work has been published and has been juried into several regional and national shows.
Currently I am a member of Studio Art Quilt Associates, INfiber and the Quilters’ Guild of
Indianapolis.
