Fran Carrico

I am a former chemistry teacher who has always loved to dabble in “making things”. Over
the years I have taken up sewing, fiber arts, oil painting, stained glass and, as a result of a Lilly
Teacher Creativity Grant, glass bead making. This latest passion has been my most consuming
and coincided with my retirement from teaching after 31 years, giving me much more time to
take classes from world famous glass artists and practice my craft. I love the wonderful colors
and the challenge of sculpting molten glass, and my work often incorporates floral and nature
designs. As the beads began to pile up, I began to take a few jewelry classes to learn to
present them in a wearable design, and then to do art shows as well.
I am a mother of two and a grandmother of six and have been married to my husband (and
former college chemistry lab partner), Xavier since 1966. We reside in beautiful Trillium Woods
outside Pendleton, Indiana, where he has built me a wonderful cottage glass studio between
our house and barn.
I belong to the International Society of Glass Beadmakers (www.isgb.org) and the Indiana
Society of Lampwork and Art Glass Artists (www.islaga.org).
