her cereal boxes,
crayons and scrap
paper. As a teenager
she found an art
mentor in teacher Nick
Thiery, who
encouraged her to
purchase a 35 mm
camera.
Cheryl studied art at
Western Michigan
University and Indiana
University in
Bloomington. She put
her art goals on hold
for a while, but a few
years later found the
opportunity to attend
watercolor classes in
Columbus.
Light and color attract
Cheryl's attention. She
discovered a
watercolor “pouring”
technique taught by
Pat Grastorf, which
creates luminosity and
surprises unmatched
by other mediums.
